The leader of the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC), Mr. Soumyamoorthy Thondaman, speaking today at a party meeting in Colombo said that evil forces are exploding bombs to divide the political unity of the hill country workers. About 5000 people participated in the today's meeting held at the Sugathathasa indoor stadium.

thondaman_s-p.gifThe CWC had originally planed to hold their long waited national convention of the party today, but as a stay order had been obtained by the former general secretary of the party Mr. M. S. Sellasamy, no resolutions were passed in today's meeting.

The chief guest for the planned convention, the Sri Lankan minister of labours, Mr. John Seniweratne, did not attend the meeting.

Former Finance minister, Mr. Ronni De Mel, who spoke on behalf of the UNP leader Mr.Ranil Wickremesinghe, while explaining the UNP's own proposals for the constitutional reform said that the devolution should be enjoyed by the upcountry people and that it is not merely for the people of Pt. Pedro, Valvettithurai and Jaffna.
