The Voice of Tigers (VoT) said in its morning broadcast today that the Liberation Tigers had beaten back an offensive by the Sri Lankan army on Monday, March 16, to advance towards the general area of Moondumurippu.

One LTTE fighter, Kannaalan (Suppaiah Tharmenthiran, Batticaloa) was killed in the attack the radio said.

Moondu Murippu is a village 7 km southwest of Mankulam, on the interior jungle road that leads up to Mallavi.

The VoT said that the LTTE attacked the troops of Operation Jayasikurui with mortar fire yesterday wounding 17 soldiers.

Meanwhile Sri Lankan army sources said that according to intercepts of LTTE's communications, 11 Tigers had been killed in Monday's fighting. They said 24 soldiers of Operation Jayasikurui were wounded yesterday when the Tigers shelled their positions.
