Paramilitary member shot dead in Ea'raavoor

Unidentified gunmen invading into Chavukkadi refugee camp in Ea'raavoor police division Sunday around 7:30 p.m, shot dead a member of TMVP paramilitary with a pistol and escaped from the site, Ea'raavoor police said. The victim worked in TMVP paramiltary's Chengkaladi office.

The victim was identified as Thamotharam Uthayakumar, 38, originally from Ve'likakandi Keapaave'li Periya Pullu Malai on Badulla road in Chengkaladi.

The killers shot and killed Uthayakumar when he was visiting his wife and 3 children staying in the refugee camp near Chavukkadi Church in Ea'raavoor in Batticloa district.

Uthayakumar and family, displaced during the recent Sri Lanka Army (SLA) offensive, were staying in Chavukkadi refugee camp.

Ea'raavoor police recovered his body Monday morning and brought it to Ea'raavoor district hospital for inquest into death.

Chavukkadi is located 17 km northeast of Batticaloa town.
