[TamilNet, Saturday, 17 November 2007, 05:04 GMT]
Unidentified armed men shot and injured a 42-year old Muslim man Friday 2:30 a.m. at his house located on S.M.B.Hadyiar Road within Oaddamaavadi police division in Batticaloa district, during a robbery attempt, and has been admitted to the Batticaloa Teaching hospital, sources in Batticaloa said.

The victim wounded in the pre-dawn shooting incident has been identified as, the chief occupant Lebbaithamby Kaliloor Rahuman.

Armed men forced themselves into the house by breaking the kitchen door and shot Lebbaithamby Kaliloor Rahuman when he tried to prevent them gaining entry, police said.

Tension prevails in Oaddamaavadi due to recent wave of abductions and robberies, local sources said.

Recently, two houses were robbed in the area while two Muslim business men were abducted in the area in November.

Following the abduction of a business man in early November, hartal was observed in Muslim areas in Batticaloa District.

However, yet another Muslim trader from Ea'raavoor was abducted Monday in Ki'n'naiyadi within Vazhaichcheanai police division.

Oaddamaavadi is located 30k.m. north of Batticaloa.
