[TamilNet, Thursday, 08 April 1999, 18:39 GMT]
Investigators excavating the stadium grave in Jaffna found bones belonging to six persons today. Two skulls and many skeletal parts were removed from the soil in the pit during excavation this morning and later in the afternoon.

An intact skeleton recovered at the gravesite near Duraiappa stadium in Jaffna.
The work at the grave site is being supervised by the Jaffna JMO and additional magistrate Mr.S.A.E Ekanathan.

The JMO said that one set of bones recovered from the grave today is that of a teenager, estimated to be 13-14 years old.

Skeletal parts of two more persons have become visible in the pit following today's excavation said court sources in Jaffna.

It is understood that the Jaffna additional magistrate will instruct the courts tomorrow to seek the assistance of forensic and soil experts in Colombo in view of the increasing number of human skeletal parts that are being found at the site.

Investigators have so far recovered the skeletons, bones and skulls of nine persons for forensic examination. The skeletal parts of three bodies were damaged and thrown away by municipal workers who began digging a cesspit at the grave site on March 26 as they had been initially unaware that these belonged to humans. Two more are visible.

"This makes it fourteen. And there appear to be more" said a court source.
